What have we been up to?
Las Vegas, NevadaSeptember 26, 2014
Arrived at the Thousand Trails Park in Las Vegas. Set-up on site #43. On Sept. 27th we went to the live show for America's Got Talent at Planet Hollywood featuring the final seven talents and host Mel B. (top photo) A great show and the performers were better live than on TV! We walked down to Fremont Street at night to see the video show on the ceiling (second photo) and the people on zip lines traveling over our heads. The Vegas Strip at night is definately the place to be (third photo). Never a dull moment! We took some day trips to nearby mountain ranges with Ron and Wanda. Drove just below Charleston Peak and then we returned by passing the Spring Mountains as the sun was getting low (fourth photo). Another trip we took was to Red Rock Canyon. With a telephoto lens, you can even see downtown Las Vegas between the red rocks (last photo). The red rock highlighted by the sun was spectacular!
Rapid City, South DakotaAugust 30, 2014
We decided totake a ride around the area and see some sights. Went into downtown Rapid City and found a nice park called Main Street Square (top). Also in downtown Rapid City are life-sized bronze statues of all the former US presidents (second photo) within a few mile block. Our travels then took us to the one and only Sturgis, motorcycle meca in the summer (third photo). A bit quieter in thelate summerl though! It was off to the Spearfish Byway which runs through a canyon. The scenery was wonderful and we had the opportunity to take a number of beautiful photos like the last one above.
Box Elder, South DakotaAugust 22, 2014
We travelled to our legal residence at America's Mailbox late in August and camped there through most of September (all photos). While there, we videotaped for our 100th American RVer show. Peg interviewed Don Humes, owner of America's Mailbox as well as his son Charles and their certified mechanic Bob. Check out the October show, number 100, on the home page.
Selby, South DakotaAugust 20, 2014
It sure is nice to meet people on the road and then see them again at a later date. This was the case with Jerry and Julie Stahlman (top photo). Jerry is a third generation bee keeper and his sons, who now run the business, are fourth gneration . Their company is Stahlman Apiaries and we got a first hand look at their extensive bee business when we stayed with them in Selby, South Dakota (second photo). We also shot an American RVer show about their factory and you will be able to see this interesting business on Show #101 in November 2014. They took us on a tour of their area and we even got to see the resting place of the famous Sitting Bull (third photo). Jerry and Julie gave us some of their pure clover honey to try (bottom photo). Delicious!
Sturgeon Lake, MinnesotaAugust 16, 2014
It was family reunion time for Peg's family at Peg's nieces home in Sturgeon Lake, MN. Most of her brothers and sisters made the trek for the Miller gathering (top photo). We also had another Class A motorhome there. Peg's sister and husband, Barb and Ted, brought their coach to the reunion. We even interviewed then for the American RVer show. Meet them on the September edition (Show #99) of American RVer. The first order of business was pitching some tents (second photo). Of course everyone was hungry so Terry and Heaven started grilling (third photo). You always get plenty of food at a reunion! The Carlton County Fair was also in full swing, so we all had to check it out (bottom photo). It was nice to see family again...
Elkhart, IndianaAugust 8, 2014
We had committed to do an RV show at the RV Hall of Fame in Elkhart, Indiana for Truck System Technologies, the tire pressure monitoring manufacturer. We set up a booth at the RV Hall of Fame Exhibition Hall (top photo). While in Elkhart, we stayed with both Bradd and Hall and Master Tech RV. They were both very generous to let us park our coach there (2nd Photo). We discovered the Elkhart Quilt Gardens that were planted throughout the city (photo 3). There was also a canal area by the Elkhart Chamber Plaza (Photo 4) as well as some nice murals depicting the downtown area (last photo). We have been to Elkhart before but this is the first time we got out to see some of what the city offers.
